Colombia Recycling Station Upgrade: How the Y82-25 Vertical Baler Improved Cardboard and Plastic Handling

This Y82-25 hydraulic vertical baler was supplied to Colombia for the compression of cardboard, cartons, and selected plastic packaging waste.

Before installing the machine, the customer relied mainly on manual collection, sorting, and temporary storage. As the volume of recyclable material increased, loose waste began to occupy too much working space, while low truck utilization and repeated manual handling reduced overall efficiency.

The customer did not need a large automatic baling line. The actual requirement was a compact, affordable, and easy-to-operate machine that could be integrated into the existing recycling workflow.

After reviewing the material, site conditions, loading method, and expected operating scale, we selected the Y82-25 vertical baler for the project.


Problems in the Customer’s Previous Workflow

Without a baler, sorted cardboard and plastic were stored loosely until enough material had accumulated for transportation.

This method can work at a very small scale, but it creates several operational problems as the recycling volume grows.

Rapid Loss of Available Storage Space

Loose cardboard and plastic packaging have a low bulk density. Even when the total weight is limited, the material can quickly occupy working aisles, sorting zones, and loading areas.

Inefficient Truck Loading

A large amount of empty space remains between loose cartons and plastic materials. This limits the actual weight that can be transported in each vehicle and increases the number of trips required.

Difficult Material Management

Loose material is more difficult to separate, weigh, count, and prepare for sale. It may also collapse, scatter, or become mixed with other waste.

Repeated Manual Handling

Workers often need to move, restack, and reload the same material several times before shipment, increasing labor intensity without adding processing value.

The customer therefore needed a machine capable of converting loose recyclables into compact and manageable bales.


Equipment Selection Strategy

For this project, we did not simply recommend a larger machine. The selection was based on several practical conditions:

  • The main materials were lightweight recyclables
  • The available working area was limited
  • Manual loading would continue to be used
  • Daily throughput was small to medium
  • The customer wanted to control both investment and energy cost
  • Finished bales needed to be easier to store and transport

Based on these factors, a 25-ton vertical baler provided a more appropriate solution than an oversized industrial system.

A smaller machine might not provide sufficient compression for selected plastic materials, while a much larger machine would increase the price, power requirement, and installation burden. The Y82-25 offered a practical balance.


Project Solution
1. Compact Vertical Design

The overall machine dimensions are:

1780 × 970 × 3200 mm

Because the structure is arranged vertically, the machine does not require a long horizontal installation area. This makes it easier to install inside an existing recycling station or warehouse.

2. Chamber Suitable for Manual Feeding

The chamber size is:

1080 × 700 × 1300 mm

This provides sufficient space for folded cartons, cardboard sheets, plastic packaging, and other bulky lightweight materials.

The customer can continue using manual sorting and feeding without purchasing a material handler or complicated conveyor system.

3. Adjustable Bale Height

The finished bale dimensions are:

1080 × 700 × 300–850 mm

The bale length and width remain stable, while the height can be adjusted according to the material and feeding volume.

This flexibility is useful because cardboard and plastic do not produce the same bale density. The operator can adjust the bale height and binding method according to the actual compression result.

4. Practical 25-Ton Pressing Force

The maximum pressing force is:

250 kN, approximately 25 tonnes

This force level is suitable for volume reduction of cartons, waste paper, plastic film, and common packaging recyclables.

Actual bale weight varies significantly between materials. Cardboard normally produces a heavier bale than lightweight plastic, so bale weight should not be estimated from pressing force alone.

The machine is equipped with:

For a small or medium recycling station, this power level provides a useful balance between compression performance and electricity consumption.

The stated 100–300 kg range is for reference only. The actual result depends on:

  • Material type
  • Whether the material is folded or pre-compacted
  • Plastic rebound characteristics
  • Feeding quantity
  • Number of compression cycles
  • Final bale height

For this reason, we assess the customer’s actual material before providing a realistic bale-weight reference.


How the Workflow Changes After Installation

Before installing the baler, the customer’s workflow was approximately:

Sorting → Loose storage → Repeated handling → Truck loading

With the Y82-25, the process can be improved to:

Sorting → Chamber feeding → Hydraulic compression → Bale binding → Organized storage or shipment

This change provides several practical benefits.

Compressed bales have a more regular shape and can be stored in an organized way, reducing the amount of space occupied by loose material.

Improved Transportation Preparation

Regular bales are easier to arrange inside a truck and reduce material scattering during loading and unloading.

The customer can record material according to bale count, approximate bale weight, and material category.

Less Repeated Handling

Once the material is compressed and bound, it does not need to be repeatedly restacked before transportation.
